Here’s an example of an event we helped run recently –to promote languages in science.

Year 10 students from 7 schools were challenged to solve a problem set by two experienced Chemical Engineers working at Morgan Technical Ceramics in Stourport, but the task had to be completed using French.
The event was held on Tuesday 23rd March at King Charles 1 School. Ken Ash, HR Manager at Morgan Technical Ceramics gave an overview of the Company before the challenge was revealed. Students were given a day to generate their idea, prepare costings and pitch their findings to a panel of judges. The judges were Taiwo Saola and Alice Vincent from MTC, Sue Clark, Director of MTT in Kidderminster and Nicci Forte a local Entrepreneur from Stourport.

All students were given pre-release materials in advance to enable them to carry out some background research prior to the challenge. Each school team comprised of two physical scientists, one linguist, a team leader, a director of communications and an entrepreneur.

South Bromsgrove High School scooped three awards: Overall Winner, Best Presentation and Most Enterprising Group. The students have won a trip to France and will have the opportunity to present their solution to Morgan Technical Ceramics in Stourport.

Eileen Stead, Business & Enterprise Project Manager at King Charles 1 School "The day was a great success and was a brilliant opportunity for them to use their entrepreneurial skills, language skills and the use of science in an Industrial concept”.

This is just one of the ways we help promote languages with a range of local schools. Language skills are vital in today’s business world and we value the work schools do to help students realise this.
