Although most of what we do is commercial translation or interpreting – we also get asked for more specialist services occasionally…

The vast majority of MTT’s work is for standard translation or interpreting projects, but just occasionally we get asked to work on something a little more out of the ordinary.
One of the more unusual things we do on a fairly regular basis is checking a company name, to make sure that it isn’t offensive in various languages and that it works well. This helps people make sure they avoid the well known linguistic gaffes of the Nova car (“it won’t go”) in Spain or the Chinese translation for Coke - they first tried Ke-kou-ke-la as it sounded roughly like Coca-Cola. Only later they discovered that the phrase means "bite the wax tadpole" or "female horse stuffed with wax", depending on the dialect.
We regularly help a range of companies carry out internet research – it might be looking at a competitors website for example or researching magazine publications schedules for a particular industry. We’ll find contact numbers for the right people or department, help with sales queries or find price lists, collect information on a range of products or just find out who you need to talk to in order to get your project moving.
On the odd occasion we've even been brought in to help track down missing people in a foreign country, looking at documentation and making calls to assist as necessary. Our network of contacts extends around the world and we usually have someone in country who can offer the most appropriate advice or help.
So although most of our day is made up of technical reports, manuals and websites, legal documents or press releases, we’re always ready to help with something a little out of the ordinary.
