One of our long standing clients is a major legal firm in London. They often come up with interesting files for translation with unusual or specific criteria that the translator we select has to meet. This set of texts concerned IT equipment and software, but the agreements were also heavy with dense legal terminology.
The translator would not only need to be a legal specialist but up to date with the latest in hardware and software technology in this document’s particular field. A short deadline meant additional pressure for what was already a demanding task.
The set of documents had similar text in various places meaning that a sharp eye was needed to ensure accuracy.
We selected a translator who had been on our books for a while, who had performed legal translations for us before and also technical texts. This gave us the confidence that she would be able to cope with the demands of this particular combination of subjects.
As usual we sent the text to the translator and asked her to confirm it was something she felt comfortable with, particularly in light of the deadline. This helps make sure that we can be confident of meeting our client’s deadlines while still providing a quality translation.
The translator’s familiarity with the English and overseas legal systems added another layer of technical expertise which helped to ensure the accuracy of the translation.
In-house proofreading added a backup layer of checks to ensure this tricky document met our client’s high standards.
The end result
Our translator was able to provide an efficient translation service, paying close attention to areas of the text where there were similarities with small differences to ensure that an accurate set of documents was produced. Her subject knowledge of two such diverse areas was a critical factor for the success of this project, and once checked in-house, we were able to return it on time to our client.
