To mark National Book Lover’s Day tomorrow – we’re musing on the importance of children’s books in translation and the big role translation has in creating new generations of book lovers!

Without children’s literary translation, English speaking children might never have encountered the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson or the Brothers Grimm. They wouldn’t become friends with TinTin or Asterix, the Moomins, Miffy or Heidi.

Meanwhile, the imaginary worlds of Harry Potter and The Hobbit, the zany nonsense of Alice in Wonderland and Dr Seuss; and the philosophy of Winnie the Pooh have been shared throughout the non-English speaking world thanks to translators.
