Translating software strings allows the same code to power user-interfaces in multiple languages. However, like all translations, software strings have their own set of challenges.

To optimise user-experience, consistency of terminology across strings is essential. It would be confusing for software users to see key terms being referred to in multiple ways. Another challenge is restrictions in character length which require linguists to show creativity and brevity to communicate the intended meaning of each string without exceeding the limit.
